Why handcrafted piano lacquer?

Piano lacquer paint is a finishing technique derived from instrument making. It involves applying several layers of polyurethane lacquer to bare wood, each hand-sanded before the next application, over several days or even weeks. The result is a mirror-like finish of incomparable depth, which reveals the natural grain of the wood while creating an ultra-glossy and scratch-resistant surface.

This technique is historically used on concert grand pianos (Steinway, Bösendorfer, Yamaha), on high-end automotive dashboards (Rolls-Royce, Bentley), and on some prestigious watch cases. Its handcrafted production guarantees that no two pieces are strictly identical — each Atmos is unique in the nuances of its wood and the reflections of its lacquer. It is this artisanal dimension that justifies the winder's high-end positioning: a piano finish is not mass-produced. For the recipient, it is the assurance of an exceptional object, in line with great European craftsmanship.

THE ATMOS SPIRIT: BRITISH DESIGN AND PIANISTIC CRAFTSMANSHIP
The Atmos explicitly claims the legacy of British Design Watch Box — this English tradition of watchmaking cabinetry dating back to the 18th century, when London dominated the trade of pocket watches and their precious wooden cases. Mahogany and Rosewood are precisely the emblematic essences of this tradition — woods imported from the colonies and worked by English cabinetmakers for wealthy enthusiasts. The choice of piano finish adds an extra dimension: it places the Atmos in a lineage with high-precision instrument making — a world where the perfection of the finish is never secondary. The fingerprint, touchscreen, and color-changing LEDs introduce technological modernity into this heritage case, creating an object that is both traditional in its materials and contemporary in its functionalities. Particularly suited for a collector's cabinet, a classic executive office, a felted library, or a characterful living room that appreciates the blend of tradition + innovation.

How to use the Atmos

1
Choose capacity and wood essence. Capacity according to your collection (2 to 12 slots, allowing 2 extra for future expansion). Essence according to your interior: Mahogany for a warm classic feel, Rosewood for an assertive stately presence.
2
Fingerprint registration. During first use, register your authorized fingerprints via the touchscreen menu. Multiple fingerprints can be stored — practical for a couple or family sharing access to the winder.
3
Configuration via LED touchscreen. Select each slot individually and set its rotation direction (clockwise, counter-clockwise, bidirectional) and its TPD according to the watch caliber. Activate the color-changing LEDs for display mode, or deactivate them for discreet use.
4
Placement and daily locking. Place each watch on its universal rotor. Close the lid — biometric locking activates automatically and the lid sensor will stop the rotors upon the next opening. Use the remote control for daily adjustments without directly manipulating the winder.

Which Atmos capacity to choose?

Capacity Dimensions Ideal for
2 slots 21.5 × 25 × 23 cm Couple or starting with biometric security
4 slots 21.5 × 25 × 33 cm Established secure collection of 3-4 pieces
6 slots 21.5 × 25 × 43 cm Confirmed collector with 5-6 pieces
9 slots 21.5 × 35 × 43 cm Experienced enthusiast with 7-9 pieces
12 slots Extended configuration Exceptional collector, a true centerpiece

💡 Mahogany or Rosewood — how to choose? Both essences offer the same technical performance, the choice is purely aesthetic. Mahogany: warm deep reddish-brown hue, in the tradition of classic British watchmaking cabinetry — ideal for traditional interiors, a cozy library, or a classic executive office. Rosewood: intense reddish-burgundy hue, an assertive stately presence, the most exclusive exotic wood — ideal for collectors who want a statement piece, contemporary interiors with character, or as a particularly striking gift.

Lid Sensor — mechanical safety in addition to biometric: The integrated sensor automatically detects the opening of the lid and immediately stops the rotation of all rotors. This safety feature prevents any risk of shocks, ejection, or scratches to watches during placement or removal. It is a complementary protection to biometric locking: security against unauthorized access (fingerprint) is combined with mechanical handling security (lid sensor). Once closed, the cycle automatically resumes according to the programmed modes.

⚠️ For automatic watches only. The Atmos is exclusively designed for automatic rotor calibers. It is not suitable for quartz watches (battery-powered), solar watches, manual-wind watches (which are wound only by the crown), or smartwatches. Placing these types of watches in a watch winder is unnecessary and can, in some cases, damage the movement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why hand-crafted piano lacquer?
Piano lacquer paint is a technique originating from instrument manufacturing (Steinway, Bösendorfer): multiple layers of lacquer applied to bare wood, each hand-sanded before the next, over several days. The result is an exceptional mirror finish that reveals the natural wood grain while creating an ultra-glossy surface. Each Atmos is unique due to the nuances of its wood and the reflections of its lacquer — it is this artisanal dimension that justifies its high-end positioning.
How does fingerprint locking work?
The Atmos biometric sensor allows multiple authorized fingerprints to be registered via the touchscreen menu. Only these fingerprints can unlock access to the watches. No keys to lose, no codes to remember. This is the biometric technology of modern safes. Practical for a couple or family sharing access to the watch winder — multiple fingerprints can be stored and deleted at any time.
How does the lid sensor work?
An integrated sensor automatically detects the opening of the lid and immediately stops the rotation of all rotors. This mechanical safety feature prevents any risk of shocks, ejection, or scratches to watches during placement or removal. It complements biometric security (fingerprint) — two complementary levels of protection. Once closed, the cycle automatically resumes according to the programmed modes.
Which wood type to choose: Mahogany or Rosewood?
Both offer the same performance; the choice is purely aesthetic. Mahogany: a warm, deep reddish-brown hue, reflecting the tradition of classic British watchmaking cabinetry — ideal for a traditional interior, library, or classic executive office. Rosewood: an intense red-burgundy hue, with a strong stately presence, exclusive exotic wood — ideal for a collector who wants a statement piece or a particularly striking gift.
Can the color-changing LEDs be deactivated?
Yes — the color-changing LEDs can be fully activated or deactivated via the touchscreen or remote control. Showcase mode (LEDs activated): presentation, evening, or simply to admire the collection in dynamic light. Discrete mode (LEDs deactivated): daily use in a bedroom or office without additional light. The watch winder operates normally in both modes — the lighting is purely decorative.
Which Atmos capacity to choose?
Choose according to your collection, anticipating 2 additional slots for future additions. 2 slots: for a couple or starting a collection. 4 slots: an established collection of 3-4 pieces. 6 slots: a confirmed collector. 9 slots: an experienced enthusiast with 7-9 pieces. 12 slots: an exceptional collector, a true centerpiece with guaranteed wow factor. The 12-slot Rosewood version is the most visually spectacular.
Does the Atmos make a good gift?
It is an ultimate exceptional gift for a collector whose collection deserves both biometric protection and stately presentation. The combination of hand-crafted piano lacquer + fingerprint + color-changing LEDs + independent Mabuchi motors represents the pinnacle of the category. The choice of Mahogany or Rosewood allows for adaptation to the recipient. The 12-slot Rosewood version is the most spectacular when unboxed. Ideal for a major birthday, retirement, significant promotion, wedding, or high-end business gift.
