Graphic color fieldsHandmade oil5 designs · 15 sizes
Like sheets of paper torn and then reassembled by an inspired graphic designer: the Monochrome Abstraction collection assembles large black color fields and cream surfaces with clean edges, which fit together like pieces of a puzzle whose template has been lost. Each canvas plays on the dialogue between solid and void, what painters call positive and negative space: depending on where the eye rests, it is sometimes the black, sometimes the light that seems to define the form. Five models make up the series, from the most graphic, such as Réseau Entrelacé and Lignes Fluides, to the warmest, such as Intersections Modernes and its chocolate browns. All are hand-painted in oil, made to order, in fifteen sizes ranging from 40 x 60 to 150 x 200 cm, with the possibility of custom dimensions. In an office, library, or living room with natural tones, they provide a strong structure without ever overcrowding the wall.

Réseau Entrelacé
Réseau Entrelacé
Black forms intertwined like writing signs on an ecru background.
Contours Abstraits
Contours Abstraits

Fragments Structurés
Fragments Structurés

Intersections Modernes
Intersections Modernes

The price depends solely on the chosen size, from €89.90 for 40 x 60 cm to €679.90 for 150 x 200 cm, regardless of the model. In our photos, Réseau Entrelacé is shown in five different interiors; the other four compositions are each shown in a single staging.
The language of the series
Painting as cutting
These canvases borrow their vocabulary from collage and paper cut-outs: forms with clean edges, placed flat, that seem to have been cut with scissors and then assembled. But here, everything is painted. The oil is spread in even color fields in the black areas, while the light parts retain slight variations in tone, visible brushstrokes, and, in places, fine contour lines reminiscent of preparatory drawings.
The deliberately restricted palette—deep black, cream, sand, taupe, and, for Intersections Modernes, earthy browns—forces the eye to focus on the rhythm of the forms. It is a construction painting: one can read verticals that hold the composition together, curves that soften it, and voids that make it breathe. The more one looks at it, the more one can discern figures, letters, silhouettes, or architecture.

An abstraction that structures space
A bare wall often leaves a room without an anchor point. The compositions of Monochrome Abstraction play precisely this role: their dark masses add weight to an area, while their light surfaces extend the light of the wall. In our stagings, we see them above a long low bench, behind an antique desk flanked by a bust sculpture, or in a large double-height living room bathed in light.
They get along particularly well with interiors featuring linen and stone shades: boucle sofas, ecru wool armchairs, dark wood coffee tables, matte ceramics. Intersections Modernes, with its browns, pairs with walnut and cognac leather; Lignes Fluides and Réseau Entrelacé, being more contrasted, favor black metal and straight lines.
Choosing your composition
1
Observe your room: white walls and black furniture call for Lignes Fluides or Réseau Entrelacé; wood and warm tones prefer Fragments Structurés or Intersections Modernes.
2
Measure the width of the piece of furniture that will be beneath the canvas; aim for an artwork that covers about two-thirds of it.
3
Select the size from the fifteen available, or ask us for a specific dimension.
4
Entrust the canvas to a framer to stretch it on a frame, then hang it, with the center approximately 1.50 m from the floor.

Made-to-order manufacturing: no canvas is waiting in stock. The artist recreates the chosen composition upon receipt of your purchase, so the exact position of a curve or the shade of a color field may vary slightly from the photo. This creation time is added to shipping time.
Good to know: two models from the series hung side by side, for example Contours Abstraits and Fragments Structurés, which share cream and black, form a coherent diptych on a large wall or on either side of a door.

Important: the frames visible in some photos are for staging purposes only. The canvas is shipped unframed and without a stretcher, as in the studio photo where it is seen simply attached to the wall. Arrange for it to be stretched on a wooden frame by a professional framer before hanging, and handle it without folding the painted layer.

Frequently asked questions
Why call it monochrome when there are multiple shades?
The name evokes the spirit of the collection rather than a strict rule. Four out of five models rely on a black and light duo, available in off-white, ecru, cream, or sand, sometimes with a touch of taupe. The fifth, Intersections Modernes, transposes the same principle into a range of browns: chocolate, caramel, and ivory. In all cases, the palette remains narrow, with no bright colors, which gives the series its sober and coherent character. If you are looking for pure black and white, lean towards Lignes Fluides or Réseau Entrelacé.
Which composition is the most contrasted?
Réseau Entrelacé and Lignes Fluides offer the most marked contrast: large masses of deep black stand against very light surfaces, with clean contours. Réseau Entrelacé evokes a sequence of intertwined signs or letters, while Lignes Fluides favors curves and ribbons that cross the canvas. Conversely, Contours Abstraits and Fragments Structurés introduce intermediate tones, sand and taupe, which soften the overall effect. For a room already busy with patterns, prefer these more nuanced versions.
In which rooms are these canvases most successful?
Their graphics make them ideal in spaces where one seeks structure: a home office, a library, a living room with contemporary lines, or a spacious entryway. Our stagings show them above a low bench, behind a work desk, or in a bright living room with high ceilings. In a bedroom, choose a soft model like Contours Abstraits, whose cream and taupe tones favor calm. The brown versions, like Intersections Modernes, willingly warm up a dining room.
How to choose between the fifteen sizes?
Start with the wall and the furniture. Above a two-meter sofa, a size around 120 x 160 or 120 x 180 cm naturally finds its place. For an office or a hallway, sizes from 60 x 80 to 80 x 120 cm are enough to create a focal point without overwhelming the space. Very large sizes, up to 150 x 200 cm, are reserved for open walls and high-ceiling rooms. Tip: cut a cardboard template to the target dimensions and tape it to the wall to judge the effect before ordering.
Is the canvas delivered framed?
No. The thin frames seen in some photos are part of the staging. The artwork is shipped without a frame or stretcher: you receive the painted canvas alone, as shown in the photo where it appears simply fixed to the wall by its corners. It then just needs to be stretched on a wooden frame by a framer, who can also offer you a matching moulding. A black or natural wood floating frame particularly enhances the color fields of this series.
Can I get a size that is not offered?
Yes, a custom dimension is possible on request. This is useful for an alcove, a section of wall between two windows, or a panoramic format above a headboard. Contact us with the desired measurements and the chosen model: we will indicate feasibility and the corresponding price. Keep in mind that the artist then adapts the composition to new proportions; the spirit and palette remain identical, but the distribution of forms may slightly evolve to maintain the balance of the whole.
How to maintain an oil painting with dark color fields?
Large black color fields tend to reveal dust: regular passing with a soft feather duster or a wide, dry brush is enough to keep them impeccable. Never use water, a damp cloth, or household products, which could dull or mark the pictorial layer. Also avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can affect light tones, as well as the immediate proximity of a radiator or fireplace. Hung in a healthy, temperature-controlled room, the canvas will long retain the sharpness of its contrasts.
