Essence of Forest brings an explosion of color into the room. In a long, panoramic format, a row of slender white trunks stands beneath dense foliage that shifts from deep blue to soft green, then to sunny yellow, orange, red, and finally violet. This rainbow border evokes a birch forest transitioning through the seasons, from spring to autumn, all on a single canvas. The paint is applied with a palette knife in thick strokes that form actual little relief leaves that catch the light. This is a handmade oil painting, created to order: each canvas is unique. It comes in fifteen elongated formats, from 40 x 70 cm to 130 x 250 cm, and custom dimensions are available. Above a sofa, sideboard, or headboard, Essence of Forest becomes the centerpiece of a contemporary, joyful, and energetic interior, warming up neutral walls in any season.
The technique
The painting knife, or the leaf in relief
The painting knife is a thin, flexible steel blade mounted on an angled handle. With it, the artist applies oil paint in impasto: thick, clean strokes that retain the shape of the gesture once dry.
On Essence of Forest, every stroke becomes a leaf. Layered by the hundreds, they form foliage in relief where colors blend and resonate with one another. The trunks, which are smoother, are drawn in long white bands punctuated with dark marks, like the bark of a birch tree.

All seasons on one canvas
On the left, the blues and greens evoke the freshness of spring; in the center, the yellow bursts like a summer sun; on the right, the reds, oranges, and violets recall the flamboyance of autumn.
The white trunks, aligned like a natural palisade, punctuate the composition and provide depth. The eye travels along the canvas as if on a walk through the woods.
The work is figurative in its subject, but abstract in its execution: up close, it is merely strokes of color; from afar, it is an entire forest.

Frequently asked questions
Is the canvas hand-painted?
Yes. Essence of Forest is a handmade oil painting, created with a painting knife. Each touch of foliage is applied individually, in relief, which gives the canvas its unique texture. It is neither a print nor a reproduction on canvas. As each work is painted to order, yours will be unique: the position of the leaves, the thickness of the strokes, and the color blending vary slightly from one canvas to another. This is the signature of handmade work.
Which formats are offered?
The canvas is available in fifteen panoramic formats: 40 x 70, 40 x 80, 50 x 100, 60 x 120, 70 x 100, 70 x 140, 80 x 140, 80 x 160, 80 x 180, 90 x 180, 100 x 200, 100 x 240, 110 x 220, 120 x 240, and 130 x 250 cm. Medium formats dress up a hallway or office; XXL and monumental formats fit above a sofa or in a large living room. If your wall requires specific proportions, a custom dimension is possible upon request.
Is the frame included?
No, the canvas is delivered unframed and unstretched. Our situational photos show a gold frame, which is not provided. Upon receipt, you can have the canvas stretched on a wooden frame for a very contemporary direct-hanging, bare-edge look, or entrust it to a framer to choose a wooden, gold, or black molding. This solution gives you the choice of finish and facilitates the shipping of large formats, which are often difficult to transport once assembled.
What is the production lead time?
Each canvas is painted on demand once your order is validated. The impasto applied with a knife is thick: it requires a longer drying time than thin paint. The shipping lead time is therefore longer than for an item in stock. If you are giving this canvas for a specific occasion, such as a housewarming or birthday, order well in advance. Our team can provide you with the current lead time before you order, by email or via our contact form.
What decor should this canvas be paired with?
Essence of Forest brings a lot of color: it thrives on neutral walls—white, light gray, beige, or greige—that let it breathe. It pairs well with a gray, cream, or cognac sofa, light wood, brass, and natural materials. For a harmonious decor, pick up one or two shades from the canvas in your accessories: a mustard yellow cushion, a pine green throw, or a blue vase. It is also very suitable for professional spaces, waiting rooms, and offices.
How do you hang a panoramic canvas?
Once the canvas is stretched on a frame or framed, secure it with two hooks rather than one: it will remain perfectly horizontal. Above a sofa, leave approximately 20 cm between the top of the backrest and the bottom of the canvas, and choose a width close to two-thirds of the furniture width. For the largest formats, adapt the fixings to the weight of the piece and the type of wall (plaster, brick, or concrete). Do not hesitate to ask for help with installation.
How do you maintain an oil painting?
Dust the canvas gently with a soft brush or a duster, without rubbing, paying attention to the crevices between the paint strokes. Do not use water, a damp cloth, or household products. Place the work away from direct sunlight, which could fade its vibrant colors, and away from radiators and humidity. Always handle it by the edges. During the first few weeks, the thick relief remains fragile: avoid touching or crushing it during installation and transport.
