Black & white3D texture16 sizes

Like a blank page laid upon a slab of slate, Monochrome Equilibrium pairs a wide black border, with deliberately irregular edges, with a large, textured white central rectangle. Within this white space, translucent gray veils float like watercolor washes, and fine, raised horizontal ridges rhythm the surface from top to bottom, reminiscent of erased lines of writing. The subtle combination of black and white creates a 3D texture that catches the eye and establishes an atmosphere that is both elegant and soothing. This oil painting is handmade by an artist passionate about abstraction: each brushstroke is applied with precision to create depth and perfect harmony between the two colors. Sixteen sizes range from a small 40 x 60 cm to a large 150 x 250 cm, and the studio can also work to custom measurements. In a living room with gray tones, a dining room, or an office, it stands out with timeless sobriety and quickly becomes one of the highlights of an art collection.

Composition and sizes

Black & white
Monochrome Equilibrium
Textured white rectangle, gray veils, wide painted black border.

Only one composition is available, in sixteen dimensions from 40 x 60 to 150 x 250 cm. All our photos show it hung vertically.

Construction

A three-layer work

Monochrome Equilibrium can be read as a superposition of three planes. At the base, the black, applied broadly, forms a thick border whose edges remain raw, almost torn. On top, the white is applied in generous layers and worked to create horizontal reliefs—small ridges that catch the light like rock strata. Finally, more fluid gray washes are added here and there to soften the composition.

This layering gives the canvas genuine depth: the white seems to float above the black, and the grays appear at times in front of, at times behind, the white material. Oil paint, which dries slowly, allows for these subtle blends and crisp reliefs. It is a painting that is viewed from afar for its graphic quality, and up close for the richness of its surface.

The art of restraint

Black and white is the language of the essential. With no color to distract, the eye focuses on the composition, proportions, and material. Monochrome Equilibrium fully exploits this strength: its dark border acts as a mat, and its luminous center becomes a window of calm in the middle of the wall.

Our photos place it in living rooms with rounded gray or bouclé sofas, opposite sculptural coffee tables, in front of a pearl gray fluted wall, or above a black metal side table. In these greige-toned interiors, it picks up the nuances of the furniture and provides a graphic crescendo.

Setup

1
Measure your wall and the furniture accompanying it: sofa, sideboard, or desk.
2
Choose the size from the sixteen offered; larger sizes accentuate the presence of the black border.
3
Have the canvas mounted by a framer; thanks to its painted black border, it works very well without a frame.
4
Add soft, side lighting to bring out the white ridges.

Size guide

Range Sizes (cm) Recommended use
Small 40x60 · 50x70 · 60x80 · 60x90 Office, hallway, bedroom
Medium 75x100 · 80x120 · 80x140 · 80x160 · 90x130 Dining room, above a dresser
Large 90x150 · 100x160 · 100x180 · 120x180 Above a sofa or sideboard
Very large 130x200 · 150x220 · 150x250 Large living room wall, hall
No stock, only originals: every Monochrome Equilibrium is created once your order is received. The height of the ridges, the transparency of the gray veils, the contour of the border: small variations from our photos are inevitable and intended. Therefore, please allow a little extra time before shipping.
Styling idea: repeat the black and white duo in the room with a single object, such as a black floor lamp, a white ceramic vase, or a graphic throw. The painting then becomes the guiding thread of the entire decor.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black border a frame?
No. The wide black border seen in our photos is an integral part of the painting: it is painted directly onto the canvas, with deliberately irregular boundaries that contrast with the central white rectangle. It visually acts as a mat and gives the work a finished look, even without framing. No frame, however, is included with the shipment, nor are any wooden stretcher bars. Once the canvas is stretched by a framer, you can hang it as is, with the black border providing enough structure, or surround it with a thin frame if you prefer a more classic look.
What does the 3D texture effect mean?
It refers to the relief created by the white paint applied in thickness. In the central rectangle, the material forms fine horizontal ridges that protrude slightly from the surface and cast small shadows. Depending on the angle of the light, these reliefs appear more or less pronounced, giving the impression that the canvas changes throughout the day. The translucent gray veils, placed between these ridges, further accentuate the depth. It is this tactile dimension that distinguishes an original, handmade painting from a flat print, and what gives Monochrome Equilibrium its full presence.
Is it suitable for a dining room?
Yes, it is actually one of its ideal locations. A dining room is a space where one sits for a long time, facing the walls: a soothing but detail-rich work is particularly appreciated there. Monochrome Equilibrium provides structure through its black border and calm through its white center. Hang it above a sideboard or centered facing the table, with the bottom of the canvas about 25 cm from the piece of furniture. It pairs well with a dark wood, marble, or black lacquered table, and with chairs upholstered in neutral tones.
What size should I choose for a large wall?
For an open living room wall or a hall, do not fear large formats. The 120 x 180, 130 x 200, 150 x 220, and up to 150 x 250 cm sizes allow the black border to reach its full extent and transform the canvas into a true architectural element. A simple rule: on an empty wall, the work can occupy about half to two-thirds of the available width. To visualize the effect, cut out a template from kraft paper and fix it to the wall a few days before choosing. Custom dimensions remain possible.
What decor styles does it match?
Its black and white palette makes it very versatile. It is at home in a contemporary interior with greige tones, as in our photos, with rounded sofas and sculptural coffee tables. It also elevates an industrial decor, with black metal, brick, or concrete. In a more classic interior, with molding and parquet, it creates a very successful modern contrast. Finally, in a Japandi style, it engages with light wood and natural materials. Only very colorful interiors risk depriving it of its graphic power.
Is the canvas painted on demand?
Yes. The artist begins your Monochrome Equilibrium once the purchase is validated, recreating the composition without ever tracing it. The white reliefs, gray veils, and the contour of the black border will therefore have slight differences compared to the photos: your canvas will be unique. A logical consequence is that the wait time is longer than for an off-the-shelf item: the oil paint applied in relief must harden before shipping. If you have a specific date in mind, such as a move-in or a birthday, let us know before validating: we will tell you if it is achievable.
How do I care for the white and the reliefs?
The white requires a minimum of attention to remain vibrant. Dust the canvas regularly with a large, soft, dry brush, following the direction of the horizontal ridges so as not to snag the material. Avoid water, wipes, and household cleaning products. Do not install the canvas above a heat source, near a fireplace, or in a smoky room, as these could cause it to yellow. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should also be avoided. With these simple precautions, the black and white contrast will retain all its sharpness for many years.
