Everything you need to know

White on beigeThick oil paint3 styles · 17 sizes

Imagine a surface of water just before it boils, when hundreds of tiny white bubbles rise and jostle each other: Modern Boiling translates this contained energy into pictorial matter. On a natural beige background, the color of raw linen or light sand, countless white strokes are superimposed, applied in broad, thick, flat facets. They overlap, break off, sometimes let the background show through, and create a vibrant, almost mineral surface. This oil painting is hand-painted, layer after layer, which gives it unique texture and depth. It is available in three styles, ranging from an almost total white coverage to a more airy composition in diagonal or blocks, and in seventeen vertical sizes, from 40 x 60 cm to 150 x 230 cm, with custom dimensions possible. Its soft palette, between cream white and rosy beige, makes it the ideal companion for japandi, wabi-sabi, or Scandinavian interiors, where light wood, linen, ceramic, and rattan dominate. Above a boucle sofa or an oak console, it brings a soft light and a materiality that invites calm.

Three styles

Style A
Style A – The white sheet
White strokes covering almost the entire canvas, beige border.
Style B
Style B – The diagonal flow
A white mass descends diagonally, beige background on the left.
Style C
Style C – Airy blocks
White rectangles in a patchwork, beige gaps.

The three styles share the same palette, cream white on a natural beige background, and are offered in the same seventeen sizes. Only the distribution of the material changes: denser, more dynamic, or more structured.

The material

Thick white and the exposed background

The oil paint applied in thick layers retains the relief of each gesture after drying. In Modern Boiling, the strokes are applied in broad, overlapping flat facets that catch the light like shards of plaster or limestone scales. The white, never entirely uniform, takes on shades of cream and ivory depending on the thickness and orientation of each stroke.

The second protagonist of the work is the beige background, which the paint intentionally allows to show through in places. This contrast between a raw surface and generous matter recalls the wabi-sabi aesthetic, which celebrates imperfection, natural materials, and the beauty of simple things. It is what gives the canvas its warmth and prevents it from feeling cold like a simple white monochrome.

A canvas for natural interiors

Modern Boiling ideally finds its place in decors where softness is the main goal: off-white or greige walls, light parquet floors, boucle fabric sofas, raw wood coffee tables, stoneware vases. In these ambiances, a colorful canvas can quickly look out of place; this one, on the contrary, extends the existing palette while adding relief.

Our photos show it above a light gray sofa, near a window bathed in light, or behind cane chairs and wooden pedestal tables. Everywhere, it acts as an additional source of light that softens the space and invites you to slow down.

Choosing your Modern Boiling

1
Choose the style: A for an enveloping effect, B for movement, C for a more graphic composition.
2
Calculate the size: above a sofa, aim for a width close to two-thirds of the piece of furniture's width.
3
Prepare the presentation: the canvas arrives without a frame or stretcher, to be stretched or framed.
4
Hang near natural light: a side window reveals the full richness of the white strokes.

The three styles compared

Style White distribution Effect
A Almost the entire surface Enveloping, luminous
B Mass in diagonal, background visible on the left Dynamic, in motion
C Spaced rectangular blocks Structured, graphic
Work painted to order: your canvas is hand-painted after your purchase, which guarantees its unique character but extends the shipping time compared to an in-stock item. The exact distribution of the strokes varies slightly from one piece to another.
Association idea: pick up the hues of the canvas in the room with an ecru linen throw, a matte ceramic vase, or a paper lamp. The beige of the background connects with the wood and natural fibers, the white with the walls.

Creation To order, unique work
Good to know: the canvas is delivered without a frame or stretcher and must be stretched or framed before hanging. White is sensitive to dust, cooking smoke, and tobacco, which can yellow it over time: prefer a protected living space. Handle the canvas by the edges so as not to crush the reliefs.

The gift for lovers of softness

For a couple moving into a bright interior, a friend passionate about natural decor, or the furnishing of a wellness space, Modern Boiling is a work that appeals for its delicacy. Its neutral palette limits the risk of it not matching the existing decor.

Frequently asked questions

Why this name, Modern Boiling?
The name evokes the image of a liquid starting to boil: a multitude of white bubbles that rise, press together, and overlap on the surface. On the canvas, these are the paint strokes, broad and thick, that create this impression of soft agitation, like matter in motion. The word "modern" refers to the work's clean aesthetic: a palette reduced to white and beige, without a figurative subject, which fits perfectly into contemporary interiors. The result is lively without ever being aggressive, energetic but soothing.
What is the difference between styles A, B, and C?
The three styles use the same palette, cream white on a beige background, but distribute the material differently. Style A covers almost the entire canvas with white strokes, leaving only a thin beige border at the edges: this is the most luminous version. Style B has the white mass descend diagonally from the top right, leaving the background visible on the left for a movement effect. Style C organizes the paint into spaced rectangular blocks, like a patchwork, for a more graphic reading.
What materials and decor style should I associate it with?
Modern Boiling flourishes in natural and soothing decors. It pairs naturally with light wood, oak, ash, or birch, with linen and ecru cotton, boucle wool, matte ceramic, rattan, and cane. Japandi, Scandinavian, wabi-sabi, or clean bohemian styles suit it particularly well. Regarding colors, prefer off-whites, beiges, taupes, and sage greens. Avoid placing it on a very cold pure white wall: a greige or cream background will highlight it more effectively.
Which size should I choose above a sofa?
A simple rule helps find the right size: the canvas should be about two-thirds of the sofa's width. For a 2-meter sofa, a size close to 130 to 140 cm wide will be harmonious. Since the formats are vertical, you can also opt for two canvases side-by-side, for example styles A and C, to cover the width. Leave 20 to 30 cm between the top of the backrest and the bottom of the canvas. For a small room or hallway, sizes 40 x 60 to 70 x 100 cm are perfectly adapted.
Is the canvas delivered ready to hang?
No. In accordance with its characteristics, Modern Boiling is delivered without a frame and without a stretcher. It will therefore be necessary to have it stretched on a wooden stretcher, or entrust it to a framer, before it can be hung on the wall. For this work with its natural palette, a simple presentation on a stretcher, without a frame, highlights the edges and the material. If you prefer framing, a thin light wood frame or a beige floater frame nicely extends the softness of the canvas.
Is a custom size possible?
Yes, a custom size is possible. Since each canvas is hand-painted on request anyway, it can be created in a size adapted to your project: a large entrance wall, a headboard, a wall section between two windows, or a niche. Contact us before ordering by specifying the chosen style, A, B, or C, and the exact desired dimensions. The composition will then be adapted to the new format while maintaining the balance between the white strokes and the beige background.
How long does it take to receive the canvas?
Modern Boiling is not a stocked reproduction: each piece is hand-painted after your order. It is therefore necessary to account for the production time, then the drying time, which is particularly important for an oil painting applied in thick layers, before the canvas can be packed and shipped. The lead time is therefore longer than for a standard item, but this is the condition for receiving a unique work. If your order needs to arrive for a specific occasion, contact us beforehand to discuss it.
