Everything you need to know

The Tense pendant lamp is a poetic interlude in Tyvek membrane, a high-performance technical paper diverted from industrial use to become a material for light. Held in tension by a slender black steel structure, the membrane appears to float in the air like a frozen feather. When the bulb is switched on, light passes through it to reveal the subtle patterns of its fibers. Available in 3 diameters: 60, 80, and 100 cm, it can be hung alone as an XL centerpiece or in a modular composition of all 3 sizes for a constellation effect. Free shipping. 4.9/5 customer rating.

Tyvek, a material from elsewhere

Tyvek is a non-woven high-density polyethylene membrane made via flash-spun ultrafine fibers. Originally intended for aerospace, medical protection, and architecture, this technical paper combines the delicacy of fabric with the strength of an industrial textile. Ultra-light, wrinkle-resistant, and recyclable, it has captivated designers and artists—from Issey Miyake to Frank Gehry—for its unique translucent qualities. The Tense pendant lamp makes poetic use of it: an everyday material transformed by light into a floating sculpture.

The art of modular composition

The strength of the Tense collection lies in its ability to interact with itself. A single XL pendant becomes a visual statement above a dining table. However, combining all 3 sizes—S, M, and XL—at different heights opens up entire room staging: a constellation effect above a kitchen island, a poetic cascade in a stairwell, or a lighting accent in a double-height living room. Each piece becomes unique through your composition.

Bulb tip. To reveal the subtle patterns of the Tyvek, opt for a 2700K warm white LED bulb, globe-shaped or transparent Edison. The membrane acts as a natural diffuser: 400 to 600 lumens are sufficient to illuminate the room without saturating the light. Avoid placing very hot filament bulbs directly against the membrane (favor LED or low-heat bulbs).

Tense, Saturne, or Arborescent Chandelier? The Tense pendant lamp embodies a contemporary minimalist approach with its high-tech Tyvek membrane. The Luminous Saturne plays with the natural craftsmanship of rattan and bamboo. The Arborescent Chandelier opts for a contemporary metal and blown glass design. Three distinct styles for three different room atmospheres.

Manufacturing lead times. Each Tense pendant is a unique piece, designed and hand-assembled specifically for your order. During periods of high demand, processing times may be extended. This individual craftsmanship ensures the uniqueness and quality of every item—thank you for your patience.

A gift with character. For a wedding, housewarming, or major birthday, the Tense pendant offers much more than a light fixture: it is a singular work where every piece is unique. The 60 cm size is ideal as a ready-to-ship gift; the 80 cm and 100 cm sizes are perfect for striking decorative projects. Combining all 3 diameters makes an exceptional gift for an architectural centerpiece.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Tyvek?
Tyvek is a non-woven high-density polyethylene material, made from ultrafine fibers through an industrial flash-spinning process. It combines the delicacy of paper, the strength of textile, and the durability of plastic. Ultra-light, tear-resistant, water-repellent, and recyclable, it is used in architecture, aerospace, high-fashion textiles, and now in lighting design for its exceptional translucent qualities.
How can I combine the 3 diameters of the Tense collection?
The strength of the Tense collection is its modularity. You can install the 60, 80, and 100 cm sizes at different heights to create a constellation effect over a table, a cascade in a stairwell, or an island setup in a large living room. Pro tip: vary the cable heights (for example 80 cm, 110 cm, and 140 cm) to add rhythm to the composition. Space them about 30 to 50 cm apart laterally for a clear view of the whole.
Which bulb should I choose to reveal the Tyvek membrane?
A warm white LED bulb (2700 Kelvin) enhances the translucency of the Tyvek and reveals the subtle patterns of its fibers. Favor a transparent globe bulb or a decorative LED filament Edison bulb, which creates an aesthetic point of light visible through the membrane. An intensity of 400 to 600 lumens is plenty: the Tyvek acts as a diffuser. Avoid traditional halogen or incandescent bulbs that generate too much heat.
Why do delivery times vary?
Each Tense pendant is a unique piece: the Tyvek membrane is selected, cut, and stretched by hand over the steel structure individually for each order. This artisanal work takes several days per piece. During periods of high demand, lead times may increase. You will always receive a precise estimate when you place your order, and we do our utmost to meet these commitments while maintaining high manufacturing quality.
How do I clean a Tyvek pendant lamp?
Tyvek should be cleaned dry only: regular dusting with a duster or a soft, dry cloth is sufficient. Absolutely avoid water, cleaning sprays, solvents, or any chemicals that would permanently mark the membrane. The lacquered steel structure can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth if necessary, avoiding any contact with the Tyvek membrane itself.
Is the bulb provided with the pendant lamp?
No, the bulb is not included. The standard E27 socket accepts most LED, decorative Edison, or globe bulbs on the market. This allows you to freely choose the color temperature and bulb shape that best suit your lighting design. We recommend a 2700K LED in a transparent globe or Edison shape to best reveal the Tyvek membrane.
Is Tyvek a sustainable and eco-friendly material?
Yes, in both respects. Tyvek is designed to last: it resists tears, folding, humidity, and UV rays with remarkable dimensional stability. Environmentally, it is 100% recyclable in the category 2 (HDPE) plastics stream—making it a much more durable choice than classic paper or textile. Production scraps are systematically reintegrated into the recycling circuit by the manufacturer.
