Napoléon guillotine & punch — 2 cutting methods in 1 accessory

✦
Guillotine — straight cutOpens the entire cigar head — wide, full draw. Ideal for all straight formats (Robusto, Corona, Churchill, Toro). The most universal method.
◆
Punch — center perforationCreates a precise draw channel while keeping the wrapper intact. Ideal for round-headed cigars (Torpedo, Piramides) or for a more concentrated, aromatic draw.

Guillotine or punch — how to choose according to your cigar?

Criteria Guillotine Punch
Opening type Entire head — wide draw Center perforation — concentrated draw
Wrapper preserved No — wrapper cut ✅ Yes — intact
Straight cigars (Robusto, Corona) ✅ Ideal ✅ Good
Figurados (Torpedo, Piramides) Possible with care ✅ Ideal
Aromatic intensity Standard More concentrated — narrow channel

How to use the two functions?

1
Guillotine — mark the cut line: 2 to 3 mm below the cigar head, where the wrapper begins to curve. Insert the head, cut with a swift, quick motion — do not saw.
2
Punch — deploy the punch: slide out the retractable punch from the side of the cigar cutter. Position it in the center of the cigar head and pierce with a steady rotating motion up to 1 to 1.5 cm deep.
3
Check the draw: blow gently through the cigar before lighting. The draw should be fluid. If too resistant with the guillotine, remove an additional 1 mm. If too resistant with the punch, pierce slightly deeper.
4
Store the punch: fold the punch back into its slot on the side before slipping the cigar cutter into your pocket. The tip is retracted — no risk of cuts.

When to choose the punch rather than the guillotine? On cigars with fragile wrappers (Natural Connecticut, Claro) or on Torpedo and Piramides with pointed heads — the punch keeps the wrapper intact and prevents any crumbling. It also provides a slightly more concentrated draw, appreciated on Maduro cigars to intensify the chocolate notes.

Ring gauge limit: this cigar cutter accepts cigars up to 23 mm in diameter (57 ring gauge). Gordos (60+ ring gauge) exceed this limit — in this case, opt for a larger diameter cutter or use the punch alone, which has no ring gauge limit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the guillotine and the punch?
The guillotine cuts the entire head of the cigar — it opens a large surface area for a full draw and is universal for all formats. The punch pierces a central channel while keeping the wrapper intact — it provides a more concentrated draw and is ideal for Torpedos, Piramides, or enthusiasts who want to preserve the shape of their cigar.
Is the punch suitable for Gordos (60+ ring gauge)?
Yes — the punch has no ring gauge limit because it perforates the center of the head regardless of the diameter. Only the guillotine is limited to 57 ring gauge (23 mm). On a Gordo, use the punch or pierce twice, slightly offset, for a wider draw.
How to maintain the guillotine & punch cigar cutter?
Wipe the blade and the punch tip with a dry cloth after each use. Accumulated wrapper and tobacco residues reduce sharpness over time. Stainless steel does not rust — minimal maintenance is enough for years of service.
Is the punch secure when retracted?
Yes — the retractable punch stores in its slot on the side of the cigar cutter. The tip is completely retracted when folded — no risk of cuts in a pocket or cigar case.
Is this cigar cutter a good gift for a cigar enthusiast?
It is one of the most practical gifts — guillotine and punch in one compact object, delivered in a Collection gift box. The enthusiast can choose their preferred method according to the cigar of the moment, without having to carry two separate accessories.
